Dr. Dunkelman and the Bots of NRRF
"Does he work with you?" Vina asks, indicating Dr. Thomas O. Worrom. Then she handcuffs him. Just in case.
"Does President Luthor know about this place?"
Chin-Su glances at Vina. "Luthor's the one that told us about his place, inn'e?" Then he'll look about the lab itself, to see if it has a name or emblem anywhere - particularly, if it matches Worrom's STAR Labs badge.
Indeed, the National Robot Research Facility (NRRF, pronounced 'nerf') is a joint project of STAR Labs and the U.S. Department of Extranormal Operations. As President, Lex Luthor is the head of the DEO. The head of STAR Labs is Dr. William Magnus, no relation to Magneto.
The guards reply that Luthor probably does know about NRRF, although he's never actually visited. They had a special job last year to recondition a robot with a human brain and a kryptonite heart! Weird.
JimBob assumes a Serious Face. "Don't tell Superman. He might have a.." He puts on a paur of sunglasses. "...heart attack."

YEAHHHHHHHH!
</The WHO>
Vina says: "A human brain?"
(That's just...wrong!!!!!!)
Much more calmly than she's feeling, "Whose brain?"
Dr. Worrom, now coming around after some smelling salts, holds his head carefully.
"We know it was a man injured in a car accident," he says. "Doctors couldn't save him, but one of them decided he could save the brain, and implanted it in a robot body. Originally it was powered by uranium, but kryptonite worked better. We don't know where he got five pounds of kryptonite, but it could keep the brain alive for 500 years."
"He can't hear us now; the robot body is in cold shutdown. The brain appears to be asleep, but is it? Is it really? We don't know. And if it is ... what does he dream?"
Dr. Worrom rubs the metallic head with the palm of your hand.
"What are you thinking, Metallo?" he asks himself. "What was your name before you were a robot?"
Vina feels a cold chill. It's a little like kryptonite poisoning.
"The shielding on the power core isn't the best ..." Worrom muses. "Too bad. Because with Amazo's plastic analog to DNA, and the power systems from Metallo, all it would take is the astonishingly advanced computer processor from the Red Tornado or Tomorrow Woman to create the perfect artificial life form."
Vina's feeling a little weak, like the room's getting bigger.

Vina is using the anger she's feeling at this scientist treating people like sets of spare parts to keep herself upright.
ReplyDelete"Okay, Dr. Frankenstein. I'm sure the Hawk Police will want to talk to you when they get back."
She's making an effort to move him to the door.
"Frankenstein?" Worrom sneers. "Pathetic second-rater! What sort of control mechanism did he THINK a dead brain would furnish? Sure, the body moved, but could it be trained? Programmed? Was it anything more than a monster, instead of the tool it could have been?"
ReplyDelete"Don't call me Frankenstein, Lady Hawk. I am light-years beyond that fumbling poser."
(Can she actually move him to the door, or is she too weak?)
ReplyDelete"Yeah, well, his creation came after him, Dr. Worrom. The creature wasn't the real monster, was he?"
(No, it gets easier to resist the weakness the farther she gets from the kryptonite-powered Metallo.)
ReplyDeleteThe guards nod. She's got a point.
"So, Doctor, this creation of yours was ordered up by...President Luthor?"
ReplyDeleteAs they pass by, Chin-Su remembered what the other guards said. "Say Doc, why'd you fire up Amazo? And why did he hit you?"
