Suddenly
"No, nothing like Dr. Frankenstein..." Vina mutters.
Looking at the lab personnel. "Y'all need a doctor? A real doctor?"
Chin-Su will poke his head out(literally just his head, leaving his body where it is). "Hey, Quinn! Wake up! Vina's bringing out a real piece of work, and we could use an extra set of eyes."
Then the mountain trembles, jerking sideways a few inches over and over and over, recoiling each time. Tourists sway, a kid drops his ice cream cone, and loose topsoil pours over the top of the scenic overlook between Lincoln and Roosevelt. Well, what's left of Roosevelt.
Quinn is, needless to say, awake.
"Earthquake!" says Roy helpfully. "My ring makes the epicenter as ... Gotham? Gee, I hope Mom's all right ... and Danette."
"It was a big one! For us to feel it this far away ..."
Roy's face pales.
"There must be nothing left."

"Huh? Wha? What happened?" Quinn pops up, his body more awake than his mind. He grabs his shield and reaches for his spear, realizes it's not there, and then picks up the alien tonfa and stares at it awkwardly.
ReplyDelete"Hmm. Hold on Chin, this might take a minute. O Great Gods of Olympus ..." He tries to compose an appropriate prayer to Apollo or Athena or Artemis or whatever other god starting with "A" might answer, asking for his spear back.
"Maybe you thought I was returning it to you, but I wasn't. I was trying to destroy a lightning bolt. And it did. And it was awesome. But I could really use the spear back now please, because evil never sleeps. Uh, Amen."
He finishes with the sign of the cross, just because that's what people do, and holds out his hand expectantly, trying to exude confidence and faith. "Almost there, Chin. I'll be right with you."
The breeze is soft. The earth abides.

Wow, this stuff is HARD!
Vina passes a well-trussed mad scientist to a capable looking guard.

She goes over by Roy who is her usual ride to conventions and other places requiring heroic interventions.
Chin-Su will stretchy-arm his hand to Quinn's outstretched palm, and attempt to pull him down to Roy.
ReplyDelete"OK gods, anytime you're ready I'll be heeeeeeeeereWHOAAAAA!!" Quinn falls into the open air as he gets yanked off the president's head. He'll let himself get swung wherever Chin swings him.
