Roy whips up a green bubble and whisks everyone up into the air.
A shadow flutters across the ground, blotting out the sun. Apparently a giant wolf has leapt in front of the sun, and is sinking its fangs into a giant serpent which is coiling around the wolf's middle.
All this appears to be happening in space, as the serpent coils around the moon to brace itself.
"Huh. If that was the earthquake ..." Roy speculates. "But which one hit us: the wolf or the snake?"
"Really?" Chin-Su looks in amazement at Roy. "THAT'S what you're concerned with?"

ReplyDelete"Well, I don't want to attack the wrong one, Chin-Su!"
"And Vina, we don't need the ship. My ring can take us into space!"
The sky darkens to black, as the stars come out, and the glowing blue curve of the Earth rolls away to one side.
"I'm pretty sure ..."
Vina looks at the Earth. Are the marks in the ground more snake-like or wolfy?
DeleteThe tracks in the Arctic are sinuous, such as a snake might make.
DeleteHaving heard they were more snake-like.... but that the wolf was heading to the Earth... Vina asks if anyone could make a shrink ray...

DeleteAnd when he does, the airtight bubble around everyone starts to fade into invisibility.
"Whoops!" says Roy. "Okay, can't do two things at once. Good to know! So now I'll make a shrink ray INSIDE the bubble ..."
There aren't any other supers around here, are there? Vina calls out on the radio.
Delete"Any superpowered, good-natured folk trying to help out the situation? Over?"
Chin-Su looks from the planet-sized serpent to his hand, and wiggles his fingers helplessly. "My time might be better spent helping out in Gotham."
