Everyone in the world sees, on TV, the battle at Mount Rushmore:
SINESTRO, the rogue Green Lantern, and AMAZO, the one-man Justice League, are fighting with what looks like Hawkgirl, Plastic Man, Green Lantern, and a male version of Wonder Woman. No doubt WICKEDO, DESTROYO, and HOLY COWO are on the way to join the fray.
AMAZO is floating in the air, having failed to use his golden lasso to snare Hawkgirl and Sinestro.
Plastic Man has insinuated his hand between Amazo's finger and his Power Ring, yanking the ring off and preventing Sinestro from being slammed into Teddy Roosevelt's head.
The Wonder Man guy is holding up a silver shield, which Amazo has grabbed. Amazo has just said "SHAZAM!" which has summoned a colossal lightning bolt from a clear sky.
We rejoin this story already in progress:
Quinn isn't sure how fast his reflexes are, or how good his aim is. He's not sure who, or what, powers his gear. All he can do is act and pray.
He throws his spear into the oncoming lightning bolt hoping that it will absorb or disperse its power, and attempts to keep a hold of the shield and "let" it move in the direction Amazo wants it to go, a classic judo technique -- hopefully out of the path of destruction, if his spear has no effect.
The thunderbolt is cloven in twain by the spear, missing Quinn and striking Amazo! He transforms in an instant into a kid-sized Amazo, still with the oversized head and hands and the red skullcap and all.
"That was unexpected," Amazo understates, and shapechanges back into his normal self.
The spear, be it noted, does not return, having ascended to pierce the very clouds themselves.
"Now I will destroy you, so as to possess your shield," Amazo explains patiently.
Green Lantern says he'll catch Vina and Sinestro.
Vina says, "We're good, Roy. I've got wings. Help the others..."
Can Sinestro fly? What sort of shape is he in?
Sure, Sinestro can fly. His ring is still ringy.
JimBob will do the best he can to ravel himself back up to his hand. Is he still Lantern-y?
Yes, but the ring is losing its glow the longer it spends away from Amazo. Apparently it's a copy, and one that doesn't remain complete without him.
The rest of Jim-Bob spools back up to where his hand is. Which is way up in the air. JimBob doesn't fly, so he has to keep one foot on the ground. He's amazingly stretched-out right now and horrendously vulnerable, were one to wish to spaghettify him further. But fortunately, the only active enemy here is concentrating on Quinn.
"Peltast! Defend yourself, but do not disable Amazo," Sinestro commands in a clear and compelling voice. "Not YET!"

JimBob, the boy named Su, looks regretfully from the fight to his precarious situation, and chooses to use the last of the ring's power to protect himself until he's back in fighting form. He is content to have at least removed the power from Amazo, if not to have used it for himself.
